Join our online engagement and information event to hear more about the national newly qualified social worker (NQSW) project in Scotland.

This online engagement and information event will provide an update on the NQSW project in Scotland and the range of work underway. It is for NQSW, their line managers and social service employers in Scotland, as well as anyone else interested in hearing more.

The session will include an overview of the project to date and current work, including the national resources we are developing and how you can get involved in the next stages.

We will hold the session on Microsoft Teams. After booking we will send you an invitation and link to join.

NQSW national project

The NQSW project has been developing since the recommendations of the Review of Social Work Education. Ultimately, it’s designed to ensure a more consistent, robust and systematic approach to support NQSWs to successfully navigate the transition from university to the workplace and the competing pressures, demands and expectations of their professional role at this formative stage of their career.

NQSW supported year

We’re developing recommendations for a national approach to a supported year for NQSWs that is viable and sustainable to provide effective and consistent support to NQSWs. Having a Scotland-wide, mandatory supported year will provide clarity for NQSWs on how to evidence the continuous professional learning requirements of their registration and support a successful transition from student to social worker. It will also set out the responsibilities and support for employers to develop and/or sustain good practice and cultures of learning and support for NQSWs and wider staff teams.

We will develop an online resource to increase access to resources for NQSWs and their employers across organisations and geographical areas, including remote and rural, which will further address the issue of inequity of experience.

Please contact if you have any questions or need more information about the event or the NQSW project.
