The SSSC and Fife Law Centre are pleased to announce that registered workers living in Fife whose fitness to practise is under investigation with the SSSC can now seek free legal advice and representation from Fife Law Centre.

This link will provide workers with a new source of representation and will make the fitness to practise process more accessible. Workers can get advice during the investigation process and/or in connection with any hearing.

Opened in 2009, Fife Law Centre is a unique legal service and, unlike other firms of solicitors, takes on cases which fall into the category of ‘unmet legal need’. Their main aim is to improve access to justice in Fife to vulnerable groups or those who have difficulty accessing mainstream legal services. Solicitors at the law centre look at individual circumstances to make sure they are helping those who really need it and they work with others to ensure their clients receive the best, and most appropriate, advice and support available.

Hannah Coleman, Head of Hearings at the Scottish Social Services Council said: ‘I’m delighted that Fife Law Centre has agreed to become involved in SSSC fitness to practise processes. We have arranged to deliver training covering the legal framework we operate in and our processes. We look forward to Fife Law Centre working to improve the access to justice of workers living in Fife.’

Joyce Horsman, Principal Solicitor at Fife Law Centre, added: ‘We continue to be dedicated to improving access to justice to the people of Fife. I am confident that many people will benefit from receiving legal advice and representation from our skilled legal team in relation to SSSC cases. We are delighted to be working closely with the SSSC to improve engagement with workers in this sector and to help facilitate the best and fairest outcomes for everyone involved.’

SSSC Chief Executive, Lorraine Gray said: ‘Making sure our fitness to practise processes are accessible to registered workers is one of our strategic priorities. We look forward to Fife Law Centre helping workers through what can be a stressful and difficult time.’

The SSSC is always willing to deliver training on our processes to those who act, or may act, for SSSC registered workers. If you would like more details please email ftp@sssc.uk.com
