Do you want to make a difference to social services in Scotland?

Scottish Ministers are looking for a new Convener for our Council.

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity. You will:

  • need to spend a minimum of two days a week on Council business, some of which may be in the evenings or weekends
  • need some flexibility to attend more depending on the Council’s ongoing business needs
  • be appointed for up to three years and may be reappointed for a further three years. Reappointments are not automatic.
  • also sit as a member on the Board of the Care Inspectorate; this is likely to require a further time commitment of around two days a month.

SSSC Council meetings are normally held in Dundee.

Scottish Ministers want to hear from people with a diverse range of skills, backgrounds and knowledge.

You do not need have board experience for these posts. Appointments are based on merit and meeting the skills required for the roles as described in the Applicant Pack.

Scottish Ministers particularly welcome applications from groups currently under-represented on Scotland’s public bodies, such as women, disabled people, ethnic minorities and people aged under 50.

The rate of pay is £252 per day and you will also be paid allowances for any travel and subsistence costs, childcare or carer expenses when you are carrying out Council business. Remuneration is paid through payroll, is taxable and the appointment is not pensionable. PAYE deductions, income tax and National Insurance, will be made. If appropriate it will be for you to arrange authorisation of the non-application of PAYE or National Insurance.

Interviews will take place on 7 June in Edinburgh.
