Future proofing programme

Our future proofing programme is a major piece of work covering three interconnected projects.

The projects under review are:

  • our Register
  • qualifications and skills
  • the SSSC Codes of Practice.

Our vision for the programme is that being registered with the SSSC is simple, easy to understand and that people know about the benefits and value of being registered and the standards, skills and qualifications needed to deliver high quality care.

The programme started in December 2021 and is expected to conclude in 2024.

A Register, qualifications and skills for the future

Changes to our Register and aspects of qualifications relating to registration will go ahead following approval by the SSSC Council in November 2022. We’d like to thank everyone who responded to the consultation and took part in our in-depth stakeholder engagement, which helped us refine our proposed changes.

You can read full details of the changes in our news article Next steps for Register for the Future

We’re working on detailed plans for making the changes over the next 18 months and will involve people working in social work, social care and children and young people services and employers throughout.

Consultation

We consulted on our proposed changes to the Register and qualifications at the start of 2022 and received more than 6,500 responses.

While respondents agreed with most of the proposals, there were two key areas with less support. You can read more about the Register for the future consultation response here

You can read the full details of our proposals on the Register for the future consultation page

Codes of Practice

We’re consulting on the revised Codes of Practice for workers and employers and want to hear your views on how well they meet the values and behaviours needed of the social work, social care and children and young people workforce.

The consultation opened on 14 April and closes for responses at 5pm on Friday 7 July 2023.
