Accessibility statement for the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC)

Introduction

This accessibility statement applies to SSSC.uk.com. 

This website is run by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to do the following. 

  • View content which is not restricted to a single display orientation. 
  • View content where colour is not the only visual means of conveying information. indicating an action, prompting a response, or distinguishing a visual element. 
  • Resize text beyond 200% zoom without loss of content or functionality. 
  • View content up to 400% zoom without content spilling off the screen. 
  • Experience no loss of content or functionality when text spacing is changed by the user, this includes line height, spaces following paragraphs, letter spacing, and word spacing. 
  • Navigate using a keyboard – there are no keyboard traps present, and the focus order is logical. 
  • Bypass blocks of content that is repeated on multiple web pages, through the mechanisms present on desktop devices. 
  • View descriptive web page titles and headings that describe their topic or purpose. 
  • Determine the purpose of each link in context. 
  • Navigate consistently throughout the site, in multiple ways. 
  • Make a selection with the mouse only when the mouse button is released, allowing for the user to cancel their selection by dragging away from the element before releasing the mouse button. 
  • Navigate the site without changes of significant context when a component receives focus or on input. 
  • Consistently identify components that have the same functionality within a set of webpages. 
  • Receive error identification conveyed to the user with text and with colour as well as suggestions to fix the errors. 
  • Determine the name, role and value of user interface components and status messages, which have been programmed into the site to assist with the use of accessibility devices. 
  • Listen to most of the site using a screen reader (this was tested using JAWS screen reader on Windows and VoiceOver on iOS. 

We’ve also written the website text in plain English to make it as simple as possible to understand.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations 

Guideline 1.2.5 Audio Description (Pre-recorded): (Level AA)(Opens new window) 

There are no audio descriptions available for the videos on the site. Under the Gov.uk guidance Understanding accessibility requirements for public sector bodies(Opens new window) lists audio and video published before 23 September 2020 as something that might not need to be fixed. 

We will endeavour to make any new video content compliant in the future. 

Preparation of this accessibility statement 

This statement was prepared on 22 June 2021. It was last reviewed on 8 September 2025. 

This website was last tested on 18 July 2025 against the WCAG 2.2 AA standard. The tests were carried out by AbilityNet, with additional testing and feedback given by Government Digital Service. 

Nine pages from https://www.sssc.uk.com/(Opens new window) were selected to be audited, representing pages that have high usage and that contain different representative types of components. Pages were tested using a combination of automated testing tools and manual testing following WCAG 2.2 AA.
