What is multi factor authentication (MFA)?
MFA is added security, helping to make sure only the authorised user can access MySSSC. You will receive a security code by email or text message. Enter the code, your email and password, this will allow you to access MySSSC.
How do I get my security code?
If we have your mobile phone number, you’ll receive your security code by text message.
If we don’t have your mobile phone number, you’ll receive your security code by email. When both your mobile phone number and email address are in your MySSSC account, you can choose to receive the code by email or text message.
Should I select ‘remember this browser’?
MFA is designed to enhance security, further protecting your data. We do not recommend you select ‘remember this browser’ especially if using a shared device.
MySSSC account is locked
If you’ve tried to sign into your account too many times, it will be locked for 15 minutes. Try again in around 15-20 minutes.
I haven’t received an email after clicking ‘Forgot your password?’
Check you’ve entered the correct email address when requesting a password reset.
Check your spam and junk mailbox folders.
Why can’t I create a MySSSC account?
We find that when people can’t create an account it’s usually because they already have one.

Applying for registration
Applying for registration
Visit our How do I register page for information on parts of the Register, fees and what information you’ll need to apply for registration.
Watch our step by step video on how to apply through MySSSC(Opens new window)
Do I need a qualification to register?
You can start a new job in social care, children’s or young people’s services without a qualification and work towards it. We’ll register you on the condition you gain the qualification. This is known as a qualification condition.
You can find out what the main qualification is for your level of job role and service type on our Help with Register parts, fees and qualifications page.
Social workers must hold a social work qualification and social work students must be on a social work course before applying for registration.
What qualification do I need to gain to meet the registration requirements?
It depends on the role you’re doing and the type of service you work in.
Find out more about the main qualifications to meet registration requirements here.
I have a qualification that isn’t on your list, will you accept it for registration?
If your qualification isn’t on our list, please send us a photo of the certificate issued by the awarding body, for example SQA, when you apply for registration. We’ll check to see if we accept it and let you know.
Why have you sent me a Notice of Decision?
A Notice of Decision is a letter that we legally need to send you before we can register you with a qualification condition, which is why it looks so formal. A qualification condition does not affect your ability to work.
We’ve sent you it because either:
- you do not currently have a qualification
- you haven’t sent us a photo of your qualification certificate
- the qualification you sent us does not meet our registration requirements.
You should disagree with the decision if:
- you have a qualification that you haven’t sent to us
- you feel our decision not to accept your qualification is inaccurate and want to provide further information.
If you disagree, please contact us within the timescale on the Notice of Decision.
If you agree with our decision to register you with a qualification condition, you don’t need to do anything. We will register you around 14 days from the date on the Notice of Decision.
You must gain a relevant qualification for registration by the date on the Notice of Decision to meet your qualification condition.
How do I check my qualification condition in MySSSC?
You can find this in ‘My registrations’ area in your MySSSC account.
In MySSSC your registration status and your registration certificate will say if your registration is subject to a qualification condition.
Who is responsible for my qualification condition?
You are responsible for making sure you gain a qualification that meets our registration requirements.
Your employer also has a responsibility to provide you with support to gain qualifications under the Code of Practice for Employers.
The support employers can provide may differ, some may:
- fund your qualification
- have access to a training provider
- offer support to help you access funding and training yourself.
It’s important to speak to your employer to find out what support is available to help you gain your qualification.
How do I access funding to gain a qualification?
You may need to fund your qualification yourself.
If you’re studying a part time course at SCQF level 7-10 and have an income of £25,000 or less you may be eligible for the part time fee grant. You can find out more on our social care careers and education page or our children and young people careers and education page.
The Voluntary Sector Development Fund (VSDF) supports voluntary sector organisations providing social services. Eligible organisations can apply for this annual funding between July and September. You can find out more on our information for employers careers and education page.
You should also ask your employer and training provider about any available funding.
Who is responsible for my qualification condition?
You are responsible for ensuring you gain a qualification that meets our requirements.
Your employer also has a responsibility to provide you with support to gain qualifications under the Codes of Practice for Employers.
The support employers can provide may differ from one organisation to the other:
- some may fund your qualification
- some may have access to a training provider
- some may offer support to help you access funding and training yourself.
It is important you speak to your employer to determine what support is available to you to help you gain your qualification.
How do I find a training provider?
You should ask your employer to help you find a training provider.
If you do need to find a training provider yourself and you are going to undertake an SVQ, you can find local providers on the SQA website(Opens new window).
- Choose the relevant award, for example Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF level 7.

- Enter postcode or location and click ‘Find centres’ to show the training providers and their contact details.
Alternatively, you can search the internet for training providers in your area.
What happens if I don’t get my qualification in time?
It’s important you make every effort to gain your qualification in the time given but we appreciate there may be times when this isn’t possible.
We investigate cases on an individual basis to consider if we can give you more time to achieve a qualification. We’ll contact you a few weeks before your qualification condition expires for more information. You don’t need to contact us before this.
If you don’t gain your qualification we will ask you to provide the following information in your MySSSC account.
- What you did to try to gain your qualification.
- What stopped you from gaining a qualification in the timescale?
- What you did to gain relevant funding.
- What you did to find a training provider to undertake your award.
We’ll also contact your employer and your training provider/s to provide information so we have an understanding of your circumstances. We may also ask you for any evidence relevant to supporting your case.
We will either:
- give you more time to gain a qualification
- remove you from the Register.
Watch our step-by-step video(Opens new window) to guide you through how to tell us about your qualification condition.
If you require text transcripts of any of our videos, please contact us to discuss your requirements.
