Submitting a subject access request to the SSSC 

Please read the guidance below on what we hold, and do not hold, before making a subject access request. In some cases, we may not be the right organisation to ask for your data.  

Data we hold 

We will hold personal data about you if:   

  • you are, or have been in the past, registered with us   
  • you have a current or previous fitness to practise investigation 
  • you have a connection to a current or previous fitness to practise investigation 
  • you are, or have been in the past, employed by the SSSC. 

Data we do not hold

We do not hold:   

  • social work/care records   
  • social services case notes   
  • adoption or fostering records 
  • court or police records. 

You can use the form or the contact details below to submit a subject access request. 

Please provide specific information to help us process your request. For example, you might only want information from certain dates. If your request is not clear we may ask for clarification.

We need to confirm your identity, so we may ask for proof to make sure we are responding to the right person. We have one month from the receipt of your clarification or proof of identity to respond and aim to respond as soon as possible.

If you prefer, you can submit a request by email or post making sure you include:   

  • your full name   
  • date of birth   
  • address, telephone number and email address   
  • how you would prefer we contact you, ie email or post   
  • registration/application number if you have applied or are registered with us   
  • details of the specific information you require and any relevant dates.

What happens after you submit a subject access request?

We have one month from the date we receive your request to respond. 

You may not be allowed to access all the information we hold about you. In some cases, we may withhold some or all your information if it’s necessary and proportionate. For example, we might withhold your data to: 

  • avoid affecting our public protection functions 
  • protect the rights and freedoms of others. 

These exemptions from the UK GDPR are outlined in the Data Protection Act 2018. 

After processing your request, we’ll send you the information along with a cover letter using your preferred method of contact.
