About the role
Due to recent staff movement, we have an exciting opportunity within our Regulation Directorate focusing on fitness to practise and regulatory improvement.
In this role, you will join a team of social service professionals who work collaboratively to enhance regulatory processes and outcomes. Day to day, you will provide sector advice to the Fitness to Practise department on risk assessments, investigations, decisions, and conditions relating to the fitness to practise of social service workers. You will also support organisational change by advising on sector developments relevant to the fitness to practise process. In addition, you will deliver training to colleagues on sector-specific matters and engage with external stakeholders on related issues.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic individual with a recognised social work qualification and experience in social work, ideally complemented by broader experience across the social services sector. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to play a key role in protecting the public, promoting high standards of practice, and improving outcomes for those involved in the fitness to practise process.
This role is not suitable for secondment arrangements.
Who we are
We are the independent regulator for social service workers in Scotland. Our work means the people of Scotland can count on social work, social care and children and young people services being provided by a trusted, skilled, confident and valued workforce.
We protect the public by registering people working in social work, social care and children and young people services, setting standards for their practice, conduct, training and education and by supporting their professional development. Where people fall below the standards of practice and conduct, we can investigate and act.

- be eligible for registration with SSSC
- a minimum of four years frontline experience in social work
- an understanding of expected standards within social services work
- knowledge and understanding of child protection and protected adult responsibilities
- knowledge of the Scottish legal framework and policy landscape of social services practice

- experience of assessing, managing and advising on risk
- experience of analysing complex and lengthy information and editing it down to relevant facts/issues
- experience of designing and delivering training, and presenting information to a range of audiences
- ability to manage a range of competing demands and meet deadlines
- proven leadership and influencing skills, and a flexible and proactive approach to work.
The starting salary for this post will be at the minimum point of the advertised pay scale.
