Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs)

An SVQ is a certificate of vocational education in Scotland and available to people of all ages. SVQs are developed by Sector Skills Councils, in partnership with industry and awarding bodies and are made up of units derived from National Occupational Standards (NOS).  SVQs assess skills, knowledge and values in relation to a specific job role or range of job roles.

The key SVQs for workers in care and support services are:

  • Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF level 6
  • Social Services Children and Young People at SCQF level 6
  • Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF level 7
  • Social Services Children and Young People at SCQF level 7
  • Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF level 9
  • Social Services Children and Young People at SCQF level 9
  • SVQ Care Services Leadership and Management at SCQF level 10.

Our NOS Navigator will help you find your way around the NOS.
