How do I pay my registration fees?

The SSSC will charge you a fee to register, or maintain your registration, on the Register of Social Service Workers. The fee amount will vary depending on which part of the Register you are eligible to register upon. Please click here for more details of the SSSC’s registration fee levels.

Application fee

You will pay a fee for applying for initial registration on any part of the Register. If your application is refused for any reason, the fees you have paid will not be returned.

Annual fee

Once you are registered, you will pay an annual fee to retain your name on the Register.

Failure to pay your annual fee may result in your registration being lapsed. You would then have to re-apply for registration.

Renewal fee

Your registration period will last for a fixed period from your date of registration. Before your registration period expires, you will be invited to renew your registration. This is the fee for renewing your registration. Social work students are not required to renew their registration and therefore do not have to pay this fee.

Failure to pay your renewal fee may result in your registration being lapsed. You would then have to re-apply for registration.

Disclosure Scotland fee (see separate notes below for social work students and newly qualified social workers)

From 1 October 2009 applicants for registration with the SSSC will no longer require to undergo a criminal records check when applying for registration.

Employers need to confirm they have a Disclosure Scotland check for the applicant in relation to the post the member of staff is seeking registration for and employers will need to provide the dates and unique reference numbers of the disclosure to the SSSC. If an employer is unable to provide this information the applicant or employer will need to pay for a new Disclosure Scotland check.

Disclosure Scotland fee for social work students

When you first apply to register we will require you to undertake an enhanced Disclosure Scotland check. SSSC will pay the Disclosure Scotland fee for social work students on their behalf.

Disclosure Scotland fee for newly qualified social workers

From 1 October 2009 applicants for registration with the SSSC (apart from self-employed social workers and unemployed social workers) will no longer require to undergo a criminal records check when applying for registration.
