Information for registrants

The hearing process (for both Interim Orders and conduct hearings) is formal.  This ensures that our processes comply with Human Rights legislation and in recognition of the fact that if you are removed from our Register this may have a serious impact on your ability to find work in your chosen profession.  The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) therefore recommends that registrants take legal advice.

The SSSC recognises that this may not be possible or that you may choose not to take advice.  In these circumstances, we suggest that you contact us with any queries you may have in advance of the hearing.  The Clerk will be able to discuss the practical arrangements for the hearing.  The Conduct Case Officer who investigated the case may also be a source of information and you may also speak to the solicitor (Presenter) presenting the case for the SSSC.  Although the Presenter cannot give you legal advice, a range of practical issues can be discussed.  The Presenter may contact you to discuss if any evidence can be agreed in advance of the hearing.

A leaflet containing detailed information for social service workers who are going through the hearing process is available to download below.  It explains how the hearing processes operate:
