We are consulting on proposals to consolidate the practice qualifications that Social Care and Social Work Improvement Scotland (SCSWIS)* Authorised officers need to register with the SSSC. We would like to know what you think about the proposals.
There are a number of criteria which applicants for registration must meet and one of these is that they hold or gain a relevant qualification from a list of acceptable qualifications. After consultation, we set these for the each part of the Register.
When the qualification criteria were set, we took an inclusive approach to accepting qualifications for the registration of groups of workers allowing members of the existing workforce who held predecessor awards to apply for registration on the basis of those qualifications. This allowed employers to focus resources on supporting those staff who did not hold relevant awards. Although this approach was welcomed it has resulted in long lists of acceptable qualifications, including predecessor qualifications which are no longer available.
It is proposed that the list of acceptable practice qualifications for new entrants to the SCSWIS Authorised officers part of the Register are consolidated to currently available qualifications in areas which are relevant to the activity of the Care Inspectorate. It is also proposed they are at a minimum level of SVQ4 or a qualification at SCQF Level 9 or above.
This consultation is about the practice qualification criteria. Registered SCSWIS Authorised officers will continue to be required to gain a qualification in regulation. This regulator’s award will be revised in due course to take account of the Care Inspectorate's work.
