All supervisors working in care home services for adults must apply for registration by 30 September 2011 before compulsory registration comes in on 30 March 2012.
What is a 'supervisor'?:
"workers who have responsibilities for supervising workers and for overseeing and monitoring the implementation of care".
Anyone carrying out these duties must apply for registration as a supervisor.
What if supervisors don't have the qualification?
Workers don't have to have achieved the relevant qualification for the role before applying to be registered with the SSSC. As long as a worker is carrying out a supervisor role they can be registered with a condition which allows them three years to achieve the relevant qualifications.
We’ve been asked for clarification about the supervisory requirement eg why is a supervisory qualification required for those with an SVQ Level 3 but not for those with an SVQ level 4? What supervisory qualifications does the SSSC accept? Read more about the qualification requirements for supervisors.
Employers responsibilities
It is very important that employers know their responsibilities about registration because if they continue to employ practitioners who are not registered with the SSSC or another regulatory body they will be committing an offence under government legislation which brought in compulsory registration.
