The objectives of the task force are shared across the UK and the report highlights key issues for social work in England today.
While we have a shared objective in improving outcomes for people, there have always been distinct differences in social work training, practice and policy in Scotland with the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968 setting the context as it is now for Scotland. The publication and roll out of Changing Lives means Scotland is at a different point in the development of the profession and we are well on the way to achieving transformational change in social work and in social services as a whole.
As the regulator for the social services workforce in Scotland, the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) is leading the way in improving education and training, encouraging people to go into a career in social work and increasing public confidence in the profession.
There is always room for improvement and the SSSC will be looking closely at the recommendations made by the Social Work Task Force. Moira Gibb, chair of the task force, will be one of the speakers at the SSSC conference, 20:20 vision - the social service workforce for the future on 19 February at the SECC in Glasgow which will give the sector the opportunity to reflect on the findings. More information on the conference is available on the conference section
