Re-imagining project update

re-imagine-bubble-400

SSSC Chief Executive, Anna Fowlie, gives us the latest news on the project.

Phases 1 and 2 of our Re-Imagining Workforce Development and Planning for Social Services project are now complete. The Design Innovation Team at Glasgow School of Art has given me its report setting out all the ideas that came from the interviews and workshops, making recommendations for things we could take forward. We have had input from a wide range of people from across the country in a variety of ways. Thanks to everyone who has taken part so far.

The Design Team found there was a great enthusiasm amongst stakeholders about engaging with the SSSC and a real appetite to work together on the big issues that are facing the sector. The findings and recommendations will be discussed at our Education and Workforce Regulation Policy (EWRP) Committee in September but, in the meantime, here is a flavour of what is emerging. The main themes are around how we communicate, how people engage with us, how we should show leadership and how we use our influence. And of course, how we do that in a time of financial constraint. We are looking at a mixture of specific, small-scale changes and bigger organisational developments.

The main findings are:

  • most stakeholders were enthusiastic about engaging with the SSSC and are keen to work in partnership to address the big issues
  • people want continuous and meaningful engagement
  • while recognising the good work that has already been done, real improvements can be made even in challenging times.

The top 10 things we should consider developing are:

  • clarity of purpose
  • showing leadership and influence
  • promoting stakeholder engagement
  • back to basics on workforce development
  • image and reputation of social services
  • using the codes of practice
  • improve internal processes
  • sharing learning and development
  • local collaboration
  • understanding employer needs.

What Next?

Our next EWRP Committee will discuss the findings and then I will publish an action plan with more detail about our plans and how you can get involved. Watch this space!
