The Practice Learning Qualifications (Social Services) ((PLQ(SS)) recognise the contribution made by social service workers in a wide range of roles to the learning of others in the workplace. They can be undertaken at four different levels within the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF): at SCQF levels 7, 9, 10 and 11. Eight programmes across the country at SCQF levels 9, 10 and 11 have now been approved by the SSSC as set out in the table below. Once approved, the SSSC continues to monitor these programmes through its annual quality assurance and enhancement processes, to ensure that they continue to meet our Rules and Requirements for Specialist Training for Social Service Workers in Scotland 2005.

Further programmes at SCQF levels 9 and 7 are currently being developed. Social service workers and others involved in supporting learning in the workplace, including people who use services and carers, now have a range of programmes to choose from at different SCQF levels. If you are interested in undertaking the PLQ(SS) you can get further information on the above programmes through your local Learning Network at www.learningnetworks.org.uk or direct from the university or college.
