Next phase of registration of the social service workforce

In March Scottish Ministers instructed the SSSC to go ahead with registration of workers in housing support services and at the same time register workers in care at home services.

This final part of Phase 2 of Registration will be carried out over a longer than usual period of time. Registration of these workers will commence in 2014 and required registration of them will be in place by 2020.

Later this year the SSSC will consult on parts of the Register and qualification requirements for registration of care at home workers, taking into consideration those that have already been set for housing support workers.

Registration and new workers

Scottish Ministers also confirmed that it remains the intention to introduce the requirement to register within 6 months for staff commencing employment for the first time, for those groups where this is not already in place. A time table for this has yet to be confirmed.
