The Scottish Government wants to make sure that people working in the social services sector get the recognition they deserve – including in the UK Honours system. The sector’s been notoriously under-represented when it comes to OBEs, CBEs and other honours and we want to change that.
There are many exceptional people working in social services who ‘go the extra mile’ to provide support and expertise for vulnerable children and adults. We’re already committed to ensuring there is positive recognition of the workforce through the Care Accolades – and by sharing all the great news and achievements coming from the sector.
Now we want to take this a step further and make sure we propose more people for recognition in the UK Honours system. In the past, nominations from the sector have been low – especially for women. We know people are modest and just want to get on and do a good job, but we think it’s important to encourage more people to come forward.
So, don’t be shy – tell us who’s shown real dedication over the years. Contact Jill Wereszczuk at the Scottish Government on 0131 244 4433.
