The Practice Learning Qualifications (Social Services) (PLQ(SS)) were developed to recognise the contribution made by social service workers in a wide range of roles to the learning of others in the workplace. They can be undertaken at four different levels within the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF): at SCQF levels 7, 9, 10 and 11.
Two pilot PLQ(SS) level 9 programmes have been delivered in the last two years, one in the South East of Scotland and one in the North. These pilot programmes have now been independently evaluated. The Highland and Moray Accredited Training Services programme was evaluated while candidates were undertaking the award, whereas the Stevenson College programme, which took place in 2009, was evaluated retrospectively. The evaluation reports draw positive conclusions about the impact of the PLQ(SS) level 9 on the professional development and confidence of the candidates. The reports also explore evidence of the award's contribution to the development of a learning culture within candidates' workplaces.
A summary comparative report explores differences between the two programmes and outlines some challenges for the future of PLQ(SS) level 9.
The reports can be read here...
