Do you want to raise standards in social services?

Do you have the skills and qualities to make decisions about who should be on the Scottish Social Services Council Regster? Could you listen to a serious complaint about a social service worker and make a decision about whether that person should stay on the register?

The Scottish Social Service Council (SSSC) is the new regulatory body for the social service workforce in Scotland and is looking for people who are interested in becoming members of their sub-committees. These committees will have to decide if workers are suitable people to be on the register and will investigate allegations of misconduct about registered workers.

Morag Alexander, Convener of the SSSC said: "This is the first time that the social service workforce has been regulated. They will now join their colleagues in health and teaching in becoming a regulated profession.'

Mrs Alexander went on to say: 'We know that the vast majority of social service workers provide an excellent service and work to the highest standards. However, there will always be a small minority who abuse their position of trust. We need people to be members of our sub-committees to ensure that only suitable people are on the Council's Register. We want to protect people who use services by raising standards in the social service workforce."

The Scottish Social Services Council needs people who have an interest in social services and from those working in the profession. Over the next few years, the SSSC will be registering the estimated 100,000 workers throughout Scotland and wants to ensure that they have people on the sub-committees from all over Scotland and from all walks of life.
