Consolidation of qualifications consultation update

The picture is a close-up of a row of people writing on notepads

The closing date for the current consultation on the proposed consolidation of qualifications for registration has now been extended to 5 August 2011.

The SSSC apologises that the SVQs in Playwork have been omitted from the consolidated qualifications lists for consultation.  This is an oversight.  Please be assured the Playwork SVQs will be included in the final day care of children qualification criteria.

The consultation document provides information about the consultation and details of how to respond. We are keen to hear views and have responses to the proposals and questions posed in the document.

Consultation events have been planned and you are invited to attend. If you are able to make it to one of the events, please let us know by completing the booking form and sending it back to us at ldadmin@sssc.uk.com

Good to see an extended date, but not so good that this is during the Scottish school holidays when most Playworkers are extremely busy Facilitating Playwork Opportunities at summer playschemes... and I believe one of the reasons that the consultation is being extended is to receive the view of the Playwork sector as to the omission from the proposed new registration requirements, and their responses so far! Come on SSSC - you need to Play Fair - a lot of the e-mails being sent round from your staff are sending conflicting messages.

I left a comment a few days ago - is there a reason why this is not being shown alongside Elma's?

Having looked at the consultation document list (day care for children) SVQ 3 & 4 Playwork is on on the list neither is the National Progression Award for support workers. Why would this be? These qualifications need to be reinstated to the list!!! This is extremely important to Playworkers!!

Our After School Club has only just become aware of this consultation and is about to break up for summer holidays. We are therefore unable to attend these events or convene a meeting to organise a response to the consultation. Other clubs will be in similar positions - either closed over the summer or working flat out providing all day holiday care. It is disappointing that school summer holidays have been chosen as time to undertake this consultation. Could this be reconsidered to ensure that the views of clubs like our own (parent led through a voluntary management committee) can be heard?

Apologies for not posting your comments earlier. We had a technical issue which has now been resolved.

Thank you for posting your comments regarding our consultation. The consultation doesn’t close until the 5 August so you still have time to respond. We have three consultation events in July which you may like to attend. Details of these can be found above.

We are looking forward to hearing your views and responses to our proposals.

@Joan Beattie

Thank you for your comment.

I am sorry that the omission of the Playwork SVQs has caused concern and you feel you have received conflicting messages from the SSSC about this. I would like to take this opportunity to reassure you and the Playwork sector that the SVQs in Playwork will be included in the qualification lists. Those who are currently undertaking or have previously undertaken the SVQs in Playwork will not be compromised in any way and will continue to have these qualifications accepted for day care of children service registration.

I hope this has been helpful.
