Countdown for entries to the 2007 Care Accolades - the “Oscars” for the social service sector

Social work, social care and early education and child care organisations are being invited to enter their teams for the Care Accolades 2007. Billed as “the Oscars” for the sector, the Care Accolades is now in its fourth year as Scotland’s only established awards ceremony for the social service sector. The prestigious and highly regarded event is open to the statutory, voluntary and private sectors.

Popular ‘elearning’ event demystifies technologies for the social service sector

Over one hundred delegates will be present at the Glasgow Science Centre today (29 January 2007) to attend an innovative conference that aims to demystify some of the latest learning technologies. The event, which is aimed primarily at the social service workforce, is being hosted by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and the Scottish Institute for Excellence in Social Work Education (SIESWE).

Housing support staff to benefit from new national Skills Sets

Housing support staff throughout Scotland will soon be able to support their learning and development with the first national Skills Sets developed specifically for their sector.

Skills Sets are guidance notes that can help employers, employees, training providers, students and assessors identify which SVQ units a candidate should study to be appropriately skilled for a particular area of work.

The Skills Sets highlight underpinning knowledge most relevant to candidates’ current area of work or an area of practice they may want to move into. With this information the Skills Sets can help people choose an appropriate learning path for their current responsibilities and future career, including supporting them to move from one service area to another.

Preparing for Practice - induction guidance for employers in the Scottish social service sector

A useful family of tools that can help social service employers plan their staff induction has been launched today. The Preparing for Practice induction guidance and induction includes a CD ROM which gives comprehensive guidance on all the main aspects of induction; a summary booklet that introduces what Preparing for Practice is; and Preparing for Practice pages on the SSSC website.
