Valuing diversity in the 21st century social services workforce: putting equality and diversity into practice
SSSC annual conference - 20 October 2006
Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC), Edinburgh
Nearly two hundred people attended the SSSC's fifth annual conference at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC), Edinburgh. This year's conference focused on equality and diversity in Scotland's social services sector.
Delegates heard keynote addresses from nationally recognised professionals and practitioners about putting equality and diversity into practice across the social services sector in Scotland. The keynote addresses were supported by a number of workshops which looked at the role education and training can play in creating equality of opportunity in Scotland, how people from under-represented groups can be encouraged to work within social services and how carers and service users can be involved in the development of the social service workforce.
SSSC Convener, Morag Alexander said: “As Scotland’s population continues to become more diverse, many people and organisations are still unclear on how to put equality and diversity into practice. Social service workers are at the forefront of delivering increasingly complex, flexible and personalised services to families, carers and individuals and we hope this year’s conference will give delegates an important and useful opportunity to explore these themes and gain new skills that they can use in their day to day work.”
