The purpose of PRTL Requirements for NQSWs is to ensure that all NQSWs undertake training and learning to assist them to consolidate their social work skills, knowledge and values at the start of their career as a registered social worker and to assist them to contribute to the protection of children and adults from harm.
The Scottish Social Services Council Registration Rules set down Post Registration Training and Learning requirements that all registered NQSW must meet in order to ensure their continued suitability for registration.
Social work graduates who intend to work full time in social service work will have agreed to complete 24 days of PRTL within 12 months of the date on which their registration was granted. After they have completed their first 12 months of practice and their PRTL they must submit their record of achievement to the SSSC on or before the 14 month anniversary of the date on which their registration was granted.
Graduates who are not intending to work full time ie 35 hours a week, will have agreed to complete 24 days of PRTL within 18 months of the date on which their registration was granted. After they have completed their first 18 months of practice and their PRTL they must submit their record of achievement to the SSSC on or before the 20 month anniversary of the date on which their registration was granted.
During the remainder of their registration period all these workers must complete a further 10 days PRTL.
