What are the timescales for registration?

couplewithteaThe SSSC is registering key groups of social service workers. The Scottish Government and the SSSC recognise that it will take time for the workforce to gain qualifications and register with the SSSC, so registration is being phased in over a number of years. Employers are required, through the revised National Care Standards, to have a training strategy in place focused on ensuring that their staff achieve access to required qualifications within a phased timescale.

Applicants to the Register who do not hold the required qualifications may, if they meet all the other eligibility criteria such as evidence of good character, be granted registration subject to the condition that they achieve the required qualification within a specific period of time – normally within the first three year period of registration.

The table below provides details of the groups of workers that have been identified so far for registration. The SSSC is currently in discussions with the Scottish Government about which groups of workers it might include in the next phase of registration. If you would like to be kept up to date with any information on this please email enquiries@sssc.uk.com and sign up to the SSSC eBulletin and SSSC newsletter.
