Support workers are defined as workers who have delegated responsibility for providing care and support to adults using residential care.
You must obtain one of the following qualifications:
- HNC Social Care (2005 revised award G7EM15)
- SVQ 2 Health and Social Care (at SCQF Level 6)
- Any practice qualification in the category qualifications for practitioners.
Acceptable QCF Diplomas for support workers in care home services for adults
- Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) from England plus the SQA unit Ensure your actions support the care, protection, and well being of individuals (DK5X04)
- Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) from Wales and Northern Ireland plus the SQA unit Ensure your actions support the care, protection, and well being of individuals (DK6X04)
- Level 3 Diploma In Health and Social Care (Adults) from England (QCF) plus the SQA unit Promote choice, well-being and the protection of all individuals (DK4104).
Previously accepted qualifications for support workers in a care home service for adults
Other qualifications have previously been included in the qualification criteria for support workers. You may hold one of them. The SSSC continues to accept these awards for registration.
- S/NVQ Care (Level 2)
- S/NVQ Direct Care (Level 2)
- NVQ Health and Social Care (Level 2)
- Higher Education Certificate Care (Queen Margaret University)
- Higher Education Certificate Person Centred Approaches for Social Care Workers (Queen Margaret University)
- HNC Social Care (all other awards pre-2005)
- HNC Health Care
- HNC Supporting Learning Needs
- HND Supporting Learning Needs.
