Qualification criteria - all workers in care home services for adults

To register with the SSSC you need to be employed in a service that is registered with and regulated by the Care Inspectorate. If you are unsurewhether you are eligible for registration, speak to your manager.

The SSSC operates a function based register. This means that workers are registered on the basis of their job function, not their job title. You need to be employed to undertake the function for which you seek registration.

Managers and supervisors of care home services for adults are now required by the Scottish Government to be registered with the SSSC.

Managers and supervisors new to post have six months from the date they start in the post to gain registration with the SSSC.

Practitioners should have their application in by 28 September 2012 to guarantee that the application will be processed by the date of required registration: 29 March 2013.

Support Workers should have their application in by 30 September 2014 to guarantee that the application will be processed by the date of required registration: 30 September 2015.

What happens if you don't register?

If you fall into this group you must be registered with the SSSC or be registered with another regulatory body by the date of required registration. If you don't it will mean your employer will be committing an offence.
