We are not in a position to include workers in school care accommodation services with an international qualification on our register yet.
The SSSC is currently working with other organisations to formulate a procedure to assess the equivalency of international qualifications. Until this procedure is in place we cannot process applications from workers who have gained their qualifications outside the UK.
If a worker wishes to undertake further qualifications which meet our criteria, they can be granted registration subject to the condition that they achieve the required qualifications within a specified period – normally their first three year period of registration provided they meet all the other eligibility criteria for registration eg evidence of ‘good character’. For example if worker was granted registration subject to the condition this would mean that she would have to undertake a qualification to meet the registration criteria and would have until 3 years after she is registered to gain the qualification.
If the worker is not going to be undertaking any further qualifications, they will have to delay applying for registration until the process is in place for verifying international qualifications. The SSSC will inform stakeholders of progress through the eBulletin and newsletter and you can keep in touch through the enquiries email and phone lines.
