Day care of children workers applying to be registered with the SSSC
The SSSC began registering:
- managers/lead practitioners in day care of children services from October 2006
- practitioners in day care of children services from March 2007
- support workers in day care of children services from October 2008.
The Scottish Government has introduced required registration for all workers in day care of children services. The dates are as follows:

As there is a requirement for registrants to gain qualifications we have also produced a wall planner for larger services and training providers to highlight deadlines and help you plan your workforce training requirements.

To register a worker must satisfy the criteria for registration. This includes holding the appropriate qualifications for the job they do and being able to evidence good character.
Applicants for registration who do not hold the required qualifications may, if they meet all the other eligibility criteria for registration eg evidence of ‘good character’, be granted registration subject to the condition that they achieve the required qualifications within a specified period which will normally be three years when they apply for re-registration.

The SSSC have also recently launched the online application form. The online application form allows you to apply for registration with the SSSC quickly and easily. The interactive form will guide you step-by-step through your application, helping you to get it right first time.
Although the form is completed mainly on-line, you do still have to print it out so that you can sign it and your endorser can complete their part.
