Practice qualifications

  • Any qualification in the practitioner in a day care of children service category.

    One of the following practice qualifications

  • National Certificate in Early Education and Childcare at SCQF Level 6.
  • SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF Level 6.
  • BA (Hons) Social Work (or equivalent).
  • HNC Additional Support Needs (Supporting the Individual).
  • PDA Education Support Assistance at SCQF Level 6.
  • SVQ 2 Playwork at SCQF Level 6.

    We also accept SVQ 2 in Playwork at SCQF Level 6 (Revised 2018).

  • SVQ Children's Care Learning and Development at SCQF Level 2.
  • Early Years Developing Practice (The OU module E100).

    Qualifications meeting requirements of other regulatory bodies

  • A qualification meeting the registration requirements for the following professional groups regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council:

    • Occupational Therapists
    • Art, Music and Drama Therapists
    • Physiotherapists
    • Speech and Language Therapists
    • Practitioner Psychologists.
  • A qualification meeting the registration requirements of the General Teaching Council (Scotland), Nursing and Midwifery Council or the General Medical Council.
  • Degree/Diploma in Community Education or equivalent as recognised by the Standards Council for Community Learning and Development for Scotland Approvals Committee.
  • Senior Certificate in Residential Care of Children and Young People.
  • National Certificate Group Award in Early Education and Child Care (Higher) (SQA).
  • BA Childhood or Early Childhood Studies.
  • Group of 21 credits from the SCOTVEC/SQA National Certificate child care units listed in list A (previously recognised for the purposes of pre-registration with the Scottish Child Care Education Board).
  • NVQ Children's Care Learning and Development (Level 2).
  • PDA Classroom Assistant.
  • PDA Support for Learning Assistants.
  • SVQ/NVQ Childcare and Education (Level 2).
  • SVQ/NVQ Early Years Care and Education (Level 2).
  • SPA Playwork with the course Introducing Playwork (SkillsActive).
  • SPA Playwork with the SQA unit DM5M12 developing an understanding of working with children: workplace experience (Higher).
  • SPA Children's Care and Play.
  • SVQ 2 Caring for Children and Young People, plus SQA unit DM4112 play in early education and child care (Higher) with one of the following SQA units ED2 L12 child development: an introduction or SQA unit DM3X12 child development: birth to twelve years (Higher).
  • SVQ Children's Care Learning and Development at SCQF Level 5.
  • SVQ Children's Care Learning and Development at SCQF Level 7.
  • SVQ Classroom Assistant (Level 2).
  • SVQ Classroom Assistant (Level 3).
  • Certificate in Early Years Practice (Open University).
  • Level 3 Diploma in Children's Care Learning and Development plus the SQA unit DT4M04 protect and promote children's rights or H5LF 04 (SCDHSC0034) promote the safeguarding of children and young people.
  • Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce plus the SQA unit DK4H04 promote the wellbeing and protection of children and young people or H5LF 04 (SCDHSC0034) promote the safeguarding of children and young people, plus the SQA unit DM4112 play in early education and child care with one of the following SQA units ED2L12 child development: an introduction or DM3X12 child development: birth to twelve years (Higher).
  • Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Children and Young People) from Wales, England or Northern Ireland, plus the SQA unit DK4H04 promote the wellbeing and protection of children and young people or H5LF 04 (SCDHSC0034) promote the safeguarding of children and young people, plus the SQA unit Play in Early Education and Child Care (DM4112) with one of the following SQA units ED2L12 child development: an introduction or DM3X12 child development: birth to twelve years (Higher).
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care Services (Children and Young People's Advanced Practice) from Wales or Northern Ireland.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership in Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services.
