Information about PVG
The Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme records are used to check information about an individual. Information is kept up-to-date and if there is any new information about you, this will be assessed to decide if you are still suitable to be on the Register. If you are found to be unsuitable this can be acted upon promptly.
As part of the application process, we ask employers to confirm they have a PVG scheme record check for the worker who is applying for registration (applicant) in relation to the post they are seeking registration for. If a PVG has been carried out, we require the PVG membership number and date of issue. If an employer is unable to provide this information the applicant is still required to become a member of the PVG scheme and pay the £59 application fee.
PVG fee for social work students
When social work students apply to register they need to undertake a PVG scheme membership check. The SSSC pays the PVG fee for social work students.
Employers are required to undertake a PVG check on all new workers. We will ask your employer for this information as part of the application process.
Where we cannot obtain this information, we will ask you to complete a PVG application and you must pay the £59.00 PVG fee.
