This Skills Set has been created for staff working with young people who are placed in either a close support unit or a secure setting. It is important to recognise that these young people require the same care and attention as any young person who is placed in any care setting and any skills sets must recognise this. The reason why young people may be placed in either a close support unit or a secure setting are varied, but not all young people in these settings have committed any offences or are involved in any offending behaviour.
The SSSC Qualifications Criteria for Phase One Registrants identified that residential child care staff with supervisory responsibilities must hold one of a list of nominated qualifications. SVQ Level 4 in Care being one. Therefore staff in both close support and secure care settings undertaking this skills set would be working at a senior practitioner or first line manager level.
All care staff working in senior practitioner or first line managers positions within close support units or secure settings.
