Who is it for?

Staff working in community based services to support children & young people & their families and promote their well being.

List of Skill Areas & Knowledge

Staff should select and complete 4 units from the following list. Unit selection should be based on job role and candidate need.
HSC 314  

Care for a newly born baby when the mother is unable to do so

HSC 319

Support families in their own home

HSC 320 Support professional advice to help parents to interact with and take care of their newly born baby(ies)
HSC 321 Support and encourage parents and guardians to care for babies during the first year of their lives
HSC 325 Contribute to protecting children and young people from danger, harm and abuse
HSC 345

Support individuals to manage their financial affairs

HSC 366 Support individuals to represent their own needs and wishes at decision making forums
HSC 388

Relate to families, parents and carers

HSC 390

Support families in maintaining relationships in their wider social structures and environments

HSC 392 Work with families, carers and individuals during times of crisis

The HNC Units “Supporting Children and Families” and “Promote the Well-being and Protection of Children and Young People” may cover some of the underpinning knowledge for the units listed above

SCQF Credit Rating & Level:
The HN Units “Supporting Children and Families” and “Promote the Well-being and Protection of Children and Young People” are set at SCQF Level 7. The SCQF level for the SVQ units will be published at a later date.
Links & Progression Routes:
This skills set links with the  SVQ3 in Health and Social Care and to the HNC Health & Social Care.
Assessment:
The units in this skills set must be assessed in accordance with the SVQ assessment guidance published SQA/City & Guilds for the SVQs in Health & Social Care. The HN unit must be assessed in line with the guidance published by SQA for the HNC Health & Social Care
