Working With People With Complex Physical Care Needs

 

Who is it for?

Some service users have more complex physical care needs and therefore staff working with these service users may require additional skills to ensure that they are competent to provide effective services for this group of people. This Skills Set identifies the SVQ units relevant for staff working with people with complex physical care needs.

This skills set is for staff working with individuals with more complex physical/personal care needs and groups together the skill areas to support competent practice in this area.

List of Skill Areas & Knowledge

Staff should select and complete 4 units from the following list. Unit selection should be based on job role and candidate need.
HSC 357   Carry out extended feeding techniques to ensure individuals nutritional and fluid intake
HSC 358 Identify the individual at risk of skin breakdown and undertake the appropriate risk assessment
HSC 360 Move and position individuals
HSC 361 Prepare for, and undertake physiological measurements
HSC 370 Support individuals to communicate using technology
HSC 375 Administer medication to individuals
HSC 378 Insert and secure urethral catheters and monitor and respond to the effects of urethral catheterisation
HSC 3100 Participate in inter-disciplinary team working to support individuals
SCQF Credit Rating & Level:
The SCQF level for the SVQ units will be published at a later date.
