Working In Housing Support Roles

 

Who is it for?

Helping individuals to move into and remain in their own homes, through providing general counselling, advice, assistance and support are now integral parts of health and social services for vulnerable people.  Workers in housing support services need to create an environment in which the expectation are clear, consistent and reasonable in terms of what the individual can and cannot do.  This Skills Set is intended to identify the skills areas needed by housing support workers to achieve this.

In addition to the units listed here, there are other units that staff may find relevant to their job roles. While these are not included in the Skills Set, staff may wish to undertake these units as part of their ongoing CPD.

This Skills Set is for housing support workers as well as people transferring or considering a move to work in this area of practice.

List of Skill Areas & Knowledge

Staff should select and complete 3 units from the following list. Unit selection should be based on job role and candidate need.
HSC 026 Support individuals to access and use information
HSC 027 Support individuals in their daily living
HSC 211 Support individuals to take part in development activities
HSC 224 Observe, monitor and record the conditions of individuals
HSC 225 Support individuals to undertake and monitor their own health care
HSC 226 Support individuals who are distressed
HSC 228 Contribute to effective group care
HSC 229 Gain access to, and ensure individuals’ homes are secure
HSC 232 Protect yourself from the risk of violence at work
SCQF Credit Rating & Level:
The SCQF levelling information will be added to this Skills Set when it becomes available.

Assessment:
The units in this skills set must be assessed in accordance with the SVQ assessment guidance published SQA/City & Guilds for the SVQs in Health & Social Care.
