The SSSC's Education and Workforce Development department is responsible for qualifications, standards and workforce intelligence for the SSSC.


The work of the department is complex and challenging. It's the Education and Workforce Development department's responsibility to make sure:

  • the social service workforce is made up of the right people with the right skills to provide services
  • people who use services are protected and receive effective services from safe and competent workers
  • education and training providers deliver qualifications that meet the needs of employers, learners, people who use services and carers.

The Education and Workforce Development department is split into two teams, the qualifications and standards team and the workforce intelligence team. The teams are made up of managers, senior Education and Workforce Development Advisers and Education, and Workforce Development Advisers, researchers.


 

Workforce Intelligence team

The Workforce Intelligence team leads on a variety of work including:

 

  • leadership and management strategy for social services'
  • workforce data project
  • workforce information
  • workforce planning/vision
  • dissemination of information
  • knowledge management
  • registration
  • disbursement of funding
  • Sector Skills Alliance assessment/evaluation
  • Continuous Learning Framework.

 

The team works closely with internal and external stakeholders particularly employers, Scottish Government, Care Inspectorate, SIRCC, voluntary sector, other UK care councils and Learning Networks.

Qualifications and Standards team

The Qualifications and Standards (Qand S) team leads on a wide variety of work including:

 

  • qualifications development
  • NOS maintenance and development
  • supporting workforce development
  • supporting education and training by the use of learning technologiesand other methodologies
  • maintaining benchmark standards and qualifications
  • ensuring qualifications meet SSSC criteria for registration
  • European qualifications
  • registration
  • modern apprenticeships
  • Post Registration Training and Learning
  • approvals
  • quality assurance and enhancement
  • SCQF/RPL.

 

The team works closely with internal and external stakeholders including employers, quality assurance agency for Higher Education, Scottish Government, UK government (through BIS), universities and colleges, Scottish Qualifications Authority, SCQF, UK care councils and other sector skills councils, HMIE, Care Commission, NES.
