Introduction

This interactive resource has been developed for staff working in the social care, children, early years and young people's workforce. We have included a range of activities in the Career Development Toolkit and information on qualifications and career pathways to help you make informed choices and decisions. A number of case studies are also included which give real-world examples from the sector and hopefully spark some ideas for you.

The resource is intended for use by staff individually to help them begin the process of career planning and in planning their ongoing learning and development to help them achieve their career goals. As such you can access this from any web browser and use it at any time. No information about you is stored and you are free to use the activities as often as you like.

This resource is a starting point – an aid to get you thinking. It is not intended to be the only resource you will use.

You don't have to access the whole resource at once. Pick out the sections that interest you most, or go through it gradually - dipping in and out as often as you like.

Using the Toolkit

To access information, select the topic you wish to know more about from either the text menu at the top of the page or the rollover menu in the centre of the screen.

Although the Toolkit can be used on slower connections, a DSL connection is recommended. The guide is also optimised to work in Internet Explorer 5 or above.

The Toolkit requires you to have a printer connected in order to print out and keep your responses.

Technical Issues

If you are having any difficulties running the Toolkit it is most likely that you do not have the appropriate Adobe Shockwave player installed.

You can install the latest version of the player by clicking on the link below:

Click here to install the Adobe Shockwave player

Note: The installation of the above software may require you to reload this page once installation is complete.

If you are using the Toolkit on a corporate network, you may need administrative privileges to install the Shockwave player on your computer.
