Social work students

 

The aim of registration is to make sure that all social workers, social service workers and social work students are suitable to work in social services.

 

If you are a student on the new degree, postgraduate and fast track programme you must be registered with the SSSC for the duration of your course. If you are studying for the Diploma in Social Work (DipSW) you do not need to register yet. You should apply to register as a qualified social worker when you have completed the DipSW.

 

When you accept a place on a course your university will issue you with an application pack contact for registration. If you have accepted a place on more than one course please just complete one application pack.

 

If you are planning to take a gap year before starting your course, please do not apply for registration until the spring before you expect to begin your course.

What happens next?

We will let you and the university know the outcome of your application. You will only be allowed to undertake your course if you are suitable for registration. In exceptional circumstances you may be allowed to begin your course before registration is granted but you will not be able to undertake practice learning that brings you into direct contact with users until your registration is finalised.

 

Your name will not be entered onto the SSSC’s register until you confirm that you have started your course.
