Next year’s event will be hosted at The Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh, on the 8 June, with the ceremony and lunch hosted once again by popular TV presenter Kaye Adams.

Statutory, voluntary and private sectors in social services and day care of children services can enter the Care Accolades, which are organised by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) in partnership with the Scottish Executive and other sponsors.

Convener of the SSSC Morag Alexander, commented:

“The 2007 award ceremony will be another opportunity for people in the private, public and voluntary social service sector to be rewarded for some of the superb and innovative work they do everyday, delivering some of the most important services to people in our community. As Chair of the judging panel I look forward to hearing the heart-warming entries that make the Care Accolades so very, very special.

“Not surprisingly, interest in the Care Accolades is continuing to grow, with applications for this year’s awards up by over thirty percent from 2005, and I’m confident the trend will continue for 2007.”

The over all winners of the 2006 Care Accolades - ROC services, Aberlour Childcare Trust Refuge team, Glasgow – were present at the launch of the Care Accolades 2007 and had some inspirational words for future contenders.

Laura Irvine, Service Manager of ROC services, commented:

“The Care Accolades is an excellent opportunity to recognise and share innovative and good practice in social care. I would encourage organisations to submit an application affording them the opportunity to gain recognition for their hard work at a national level.

“We were all delighted to win our category and thrilled when we won the overall award. It was a very positive acknowledgement of the contribution of all parties in setting up and running Scotland’s only refuge for young runaways.”

The Care Accolades is open to the statutory, voluntary and private sectors in social services and day care of children services. There are seven categories and an overall winner is declared on the day. The awards for the categories reward employers who have policies in place that retain and support staff, organisations that involve people who use services to ensure that their needs are at the centre of their work and provide examples of excellence in partnership working and innovative training programmes.
